Unveiling Of Amy’s Statue In Camden

Event Information | Events | News | Press

As many of you will know there have been plans for a statue of Amy to be placed in Camden for some time now.

We are pleased to announce that a beautiful life size bronze of Amy will be placed in the Stables Market in Camden on Amy’s birthday, and our third birthday, September 14th 2014.

Although the statue was originally planned for the terrace of the Roundhouse, due to Amy’s and the Foundations affinity with the iconic music venue, after careful consideration it was decided it would be placed somewhere that fans could gain year round access, and so the new location was chosen.

The specially-commissioned statue, designed and sculpted by Scott Eaton and cast in bronze will be unveiled by Amys family and friends, and will offer them and Amy’s many fans a permanent memorial in the heart of Amy’s spiritual home of Camden.

The statue is funded by the Winehouse family and, the parent company for the Stables Market in Camden Town.

We will soon be approaching the 14th September which would have been Amys 31st birthday and will also be the Amy Winehouse Foundation’s 3rd birthday. After the success of last year’s #Amys30 events and the overwhelming support we received from fans & supporters all over the world, we thought it would be nice to mark this very special occasion again this year.

Your support helps us to continue our work to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people and help the most vulnerable to reach their full potential.

You could hold a gig, a bake sale, a sporting event or anything else you can think of that will help raise funds… and have a lot of fun at the same time!

Please post photos of your event using the hashtag #AWFis3 on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and at the end of September we will send an Amy Winehouse Foundation goody bag to the person or group with the best photo!

STRIDE Foundation Race Day Fundraiser

Events | News

This Friday 1st August 2014, model and actor Paul Sculfor will host the inaugural launch event for his charitable initiative, STRIDE, in aid of the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

STRIDE’s goal is to raise awareness and provide direct resources to those who may not have access or support to continue with their recovery and re-integration into society. The definition of the word stride is: “walk with long, decisive steps in a specified direction.” – STRIDE aims to facilitate this journey by supporting and contributing to local charity initiatives and improving public perception surrounding addiction.

To mark the occasion Paul, an avid petrol head, has chosen a track day, where he will be joined by friends from the fashion and entertainment industry.

The launch event will be a fun day for all involved whilst fundraising for the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a cause close to Paul’s heart. Throughout  his professional life, Paul noticed a high rate in addiction problems and after his personal experience with recovery; he is passionate about helping others. Recognising and understanding the difficulties in integrating and continuing to function within society during recovery has inspired Paul to set up STRIDE.

Mayor Joins Mitch Winehouse To Launch Camden Music Works

We are proud to announce an exciting new project ‘Camden Music Works’ which we have just launched in partnership with Camden Council, Westminster Kingsway College and Camden into Enterprise.

This new pilot programme will see 10 young people aged 18-24 from the borough of Camden embark on the innovative 6-week long scheme. Targeted towards young people who are not in full-time employment, education or training, the programme is designed to provide individuals with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to go on and gain a successful career within the music world.

Training will be delivered by business experts and specialist teachers at The Camden Into Enterprise Hub at Westminster Kingsway College, with special guest speakers from across the music industry also attending to pass on their professional advice.

Training will cover important aspects such as how the industry is structured to the best ways of securing a job through CV and interview workshops.

Whilst on a work experience placement, young people will also keep a record of their experiences by recording outcomes, building an action-plan and identifying possible personal and professional areas for development. Work placement partners include; Camden Lock Market Ltd, Tower 47, MTV, Island Records and Black Butter Records.

Amy Winehouse Foundation - Roundhouse Portraits

The programme worked closely with The Prince’s Trust, Job Centre Plus and a range of other youth organisations to identify eligible young people who would benefit from the programme.

The Mayor of Camden, Councillor Jonathan Simpson, said: “Camden houses some of the capital’s most legendary music venues and is a vibrant centre for the creative industries. It is therefore appropriate that we should take the lead in developing an innovative and potentially life changing opportunity for the talented young people of this borough.

“There are many young people who have a passion for music, but underestimate their potential and presume that the avenues into the industry are weighted against them.

“This programme seeks to readdress this by offering a programme to strengthen their employability prospects and connect employers with talented young people.

“It is our firm belief that the industry will benefit from involvement in the programme by offering new avenues of recruitment.”

Camden Works Induction

Mitch Winehouse added: “We were really keen to get involved in the Camden Works Music Experience pilot because we know from our work in the borough, and indeed other parts of the capital, that there are a great deal of young people keen to get into the industry but facing significant barriers to opportunities simply because of their circumstances.

“These young people have a great deal of creativity and enthusiasm to offer, and in partnership with some of our friends and contacts in the industry we hope to increase their chances of beginning a career in an industry they are passionate about.”

Fred Perry & Central Saint Martins Partner In Support Of AWF

The iconic fashion brand Fred Perry has announced that it will be teaming up with Central Saint Martins to design a new range of clothes for the Amy Winehouse Foundation Collection.

One hundred and fifty students from the prestigious college’s Foundation Course (Fashion & Textiles pathway) will be invited to take part in a subculture themed research project.

Both a Fred Perry shirt and bowling shirt are to be designed, which will then complement the in-house designs that form the Collection.

Three winning entries will be chosen, with the Fred Perry design team specifically looking for designs that capture the ethos and personality of the brand.

As well as winning a monetary prize, the chosen students will also get to work closely with the design and product development teams, and ultimately see their items manufactured and distributed around the world in all Fred Perry stores as well as selected retailers.
