As the warm acclaim afforded Amy Winehouse’s “Lioness : Hidden Treasures”, released yesterday, continues to grow, today sees the album go straight to number 1 on the midweek chart. Compiled by long-time musical partners Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson in close association with Amy’s family, management and record label Island Records, “Lioness : Hidden Treasures” proves a fitting tribute to the artist, the talent and the woman.
Last week also saw Amy receive a Grammy nomination for her duet with Tony Bennett on the standard “Body & Soul”, recorded in March of 2011 at Abbey Road Studios in London.
“Lioness” has plenty to cherish…the joy here is being reminded anew of the voice (Tony) Bennett himself would call “as good as Ella Fitzgerald”. An admirable tribute”. Q
“The truly gruelling thing about Lioness is that most of it is beautiful and effortless and easy…it sounds like a great new record by someone who is spectacularly alive. But is it isn’t. And that’s what breaks your heart”. Uncut 4*
“Camden’s troubled genius is remembered for all the right reasons with this posthumous release. A vivid snapshot of her clear talent”. GQ
“Utterly bewitching. A fitting final tribute”. Shortlist
