Amy Winehouse Foundation grants £20,000 to the MS Society

The MS Society fund research, give grants, campaign for change, provide information and support, invest in MS specialists and lend a listening ear to those who need it. Their Mission is to enable everyone affected by MS to live life to their full potential and secure the care and support they need, until they ultimately find a cure.

There are probably about 5000 children with MS in the UK and looking after these young people can be a challenge as even ‘simple’ things like the correct dose of drug for a child are not well established. We spoke to them about the ways in which their work related specifically to young people to see which areas we may be able to offer support in.

As Janis Winehouse, Amy’s mother, suffers with multiple sclerosis, the work of the MS Society is a cause particularly close to the family’s hearts. The Amy Winehouse Foundation has granted the MS Society £20,000, £10,000 of which will go towards a two year study of children and young people will MS which mean faster diagnosis, better understanding of how MS develops in children and improved access to the best treatments. Another £10,000 will go towards their Short Breaks and Activities and Young Carers grants schemes.

The Foundation attended the MS Society’s MS Life event in Manchester back in April where Janis presented them with their grant cheque, here is a short film from our visit.

About the Amy Winehouse Foundation

In Amy’s memory, we work to inspire children and young people to build their self-esteem and resilience, so that they can flourish.

Our work is inspired by Amy’s spirit, her love of children and the challenges that she faced in her own life.

Today, the Amy Winehouse Foundation helps thousands of young people to feel supported and informed so that they are better able to manage their emotional wellbeing and make informed choices around things that can affect their lives.

We’re able to do this because of the support we receive from people like you. Anyone who believes in young people can become a part of our work and Amy’s legacy. By supporting our work, you will help them to transform their lives, flourish and be heard.
