Multi-platinum recording artist Nas will be donating £1 from every ticket sold to his London 2013 show to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Nas, who will be performing at London’s O2 arena on 19th March 2013 had a close personal friendship of Amy, which led him to make the decision to support the charity set up in her name.
As well as being close personal friends the pair also worked together, Amy appears on Nas’ current single ‘Cherry Wine’ that features on his sixth #1 album, and Nas featured on Amy’s Lioness: Hidden Treasures album on ‘Like Smoke’ which was released in December last year.
Mitch Winehouse says, “Nas has announced that £1 from every ticket sold for his London concert will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Amy and Nas had a special relationship and he will also be at our New York Gala event on 21st March next year. The donation of £1 per ticket will help us continue our support of disadvantaged young people, and we at the Foundation very much appreciate this magnificent gesture”.
The Amy Winehouse Foundation works to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people. The Foundation also aims to support, inform and inspire vulnerable and disadvantaged young people to help them reach their full potential.
During this first year the Amy Winehouse Foundation has achieved great success in both fundraising and providing support for charitable organisations.
Nas said, “Amy was just one of a kind, we just clicked like that. May she rest in peace…she’s watching us, she’s holding me down and I’m holding her down here. It’s just love forever”.
